Antonio Lo Curto, born in Italy in 2001, began his musical studies with Maestro Giuseppe Carabellese, with whom he obtained both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with highest honors at the Umberto Giordano Conservatory of Foggia, Italy.
After completing his degrees, he continued his studies—first as an Erasmus student and subsequently as a trainee—in the cello class of Prof. Alexey Stadler at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, focusing in particular on the role of the cello in Italian opera.
During his studies, he had the opportunity to deepen his knowledge of the orchestral repertoire by collaborating with various professional Italian and German orchestras, including the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana, European Philharmonic Orchestra, NDR Jugendsinfonieorchester, Hamburger Kammerorchester, Lüneburger Kammerorchester, Orchestra Sinfonica della Città Metropolitana di Bari, and Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg.
Through these collaborations, he performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls and theatres, including the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Konzerthaus and Philharmonie Berlin, Goldener Saal Musikverein Wien, and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, where he worked with internationally renowned musicians such as Kolja Blacher, Alexander Lonquich, Barnabás Kelemen, Wilson Hermanto, and Roberto Abbado.
He is currently dedicating himself intensively to chamber music and is supported by Live Musik Now Hamburg, where he is a scholarship holder, performing regularly with Tonler Piano Trio and String Trio.
Antonio Lo Curto has received further artistic inspiration through participation in various masterclasses, including those with Mario Brunello, Sebastian Klinger, Luigi Piovano, Tanja Tetzlaff, Giovanni Gnocchi, and Eberhard Feltz.
The ensemble formed by Yaodong Zhang on violin, Malte Buschenlange on viola, and Antonio Lo Curto on cello was born within the academic program of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg but quickly grew beyond the scope of their studies.
The three musicians cultivate a love for the classical period while also seeking to make room for the new, focusing on music from the 20th century and contemporary music.
The ensemble is supported by the Live Musik Now Hamburg Foundation.
